![]() But you can't use the ambient sound if you don't have it, obviously :)ĭo I need to stipulate the USB out is pre-fader somehow? I'd certainly recommend having an ambient mic, especially if you're recording multiple tracks anyway if it's useful in the mix later, you'll appreciate it, and if you don't need it you don't use it. (And yes, I'm using the same laptop for controlling XR18 and recording into Logic.) I've been recording to the internal SSD, for short sessions you may want to record to a fast external drive for more space. On the MacBook, I select the XR18 as my audio input device, and in Logic software I designate which of the 18 XR18 sources are used on which Logic tracks. In the X-Air software, I designate what goes where for USB output (which inputs go to which of the 18 outputs). Yes, the USB out is pre-fader by default. I've recently recorded two bands using my XR18, connected to MacBook Pro with both ethernet (using X-Air app to control XR18) and USB (sending multitrack audio from XR18 to Logic X on Macbook Pro). It's possible we could get some out front audio from the iPhones/Go Pros as well. We do have a small two channel handheld digital recorder we could use, but that would require syncing it up somehow during the mix. How important is having some sort of crowd mic, or mic out front? We did this once before (with someone else handling the recording for us) and the vocal mics picked up a fair amount of crowd/ambience. My initial plan was just record into Logic, but I'm wondering if there's an app that's more geared for just capturing the stems in a live situation rather than using a full DAW. Do I need to stipulate the USB out is pre-fader somehow? I've been looking at the Behringer Wiki as well as going through the settings in the X-Air app and not seeing how this is done. ![]() I want to make sure that I've set up the USB output for each track properly so what's being recorded isn't affected by the person doing the live mix out front from a tablet. The band is drums, bass, guitar, keys, and three vocalists. The ultimate goal is to capture a few songs live, mixed from those stems, and ultimately synced with some video from a few friends iPhones and maybe a GoPro or two. As the title says, we're using a Behringer XR18 and the plan is to capture multitrack audio via the USB interface capability of the XR18. I'm trying to prep as much as I can for recording several songs at a gig in February. I've done some searches in this sub, which has given me some good info, but I've still got some questions. ![]()
